Inconel Bolts: AMS 5662 vs AMS 5663

Q: What is the difference between Inconel bolts per AMS 5662 and AMS 5663?

A: AMS 5562 and AMS 5663 are material standards from SAE International that describe Inconel 718 (UNS N07718) / 52,5Ni – 19Cr – 3.1Mo – 5.1(Cb + Ta) – 0.90Ti – 0.50Al / NiCr19MoNb.

The difference between the standard is the heat condition. Inconel 718 bolts per AMS 5662 are made of a solution annealed material, whereas AMS 5663 bolts are aged hardened. The strength of a screw in the solution annealed condition (AMS 5662) will be significantly lower than in the aged condition(AMS 5663).
