Duplex Bolts for Oil & Gas Brine

Q: I have the need for a bolt that can withstand high temp brine byproduct from an oil & gas installation. Any suggestions?
A: Depending on what temperatures you are dealing with Duplex Steel bolts may be a good fit. Duplex bolts provide good localized resistance to brines and chlorides. Super Duplex 2507 is twice as strong as 300 series steels and can be used to about  570°F before you will see a reduction in strength. If you are in a situation where you need higher temperature resistance, or if you have other contaminants polluting the brine, I would then suggest Hastelloy C276 bolts. Hastelloy is usable to about 1000°F. It is almost inert to all salts, brines and chlorides, and offers excellent resistance to many acids as well.
