NAS, and MS parts – What do these mean?

Q: My customer is requesting NAS and MS part numbers. What do they stand for and why are they important?
A: NAS parts are National Aerospace Standards. NAS parts are best known for their precision and high strength. They come in all types of screws, nuts, rivets, rod end bearings, electrical connectors and many other types of hardware and components.
MS stands for Military Standard and have replaced most of the AN (Army-Navy) hardware series. MS parts are made to a  controlled bulk specification made by the military. This spec covers everything from size, strength, material type, post processing, heat treating, etc. This makes the parts guaranteed for any military requirements.
