Hastelloy C276 Bolts for Hot Acids

Q: I’m running a laboratory process that will be exposing bolts to a variety of acids. I’d like a metal bolt that can withstand low concentration hot acids. I was thinking a Hastelloy C276 bolt may be a good option. Are there any acids I should beware of that can cause corrosion?

A: Hastelloy C276 bolts perform very well in hot reducing acids such as sulfuric and hydrochloric and are great for a wide variety of corrosive media. They can also handle wet chloride gas, chlorine dioxide, strong alkalis and halides. Where Hastelloy C276 screws fall short is in strong oxidizing situations like nitric acid. If strong oxidizers are present you may want to choose C22 bolts.
