Q: I need a large quantity of fasteners that can offer about 100ksi of tensile strength and provide me resistance to seaspray and salt air. Is titanium a good choice?
A: Titanium grade 5 bolts will meet both these requirements, but will probably be overkill in your situation. For this application, I would suggest using Super Duplex 2507 bolts because they are known for their ability to withstand high mechanical load in seawater. Super Duplex bolts offer 125ksi of ultimate tensile strength as well as good resistance to chlorides – especially localized corrosion. Duplex 2507 bolts will also give you a more economic solution to titanium grade 5 fasteners.
