One of the highest strength alloys available to industry

MP35N hex head cap screws are known for their extraordinary strength and are the strongest screws we offer at Extreme Bolt. MP35N screws owe their extraordinary strength to a unique alloy combination of nickel, cobalt, chrome and molybdenum and have ultimate tensile strengths that range from 227 ksi to 294 ksi (with age hardening).

Beyond the strength of MP35N screws, they are also exhibit good corrosion resistance and can resist most mineral acids, hydrogen sulfide, seawater and salt spray environments. MP35N hex head cap screws are also resistant to high temperature oxidation and could operate in environments up to 800°F and still maintain much of its strength. Applications where MP35N screws are often found are: aerospace, defense, marine, chemical processing, oil and gas and medical.

MP35N Hex Head Cap Screw Features and Benefits

It is important to differentiate between a MP35N hex head cap screw and hex head bolt. Often people assume they are the same, but they are actually very different fasteners in terms of how they are manufactured, as well as from an application perspective. Regardless of your choice, MP35N hex heads offer strong, stable joints because of their large head service.

The Hex Comparison

Hex Head Cap Screw Hex Head Bolts
  • Precise applications where tight tolerances on the body dimensions are required.
  • Features flat washer facing under the bolt head.
  • Also called a finished hex bolt.
  • Appropriate for when mechanical properties are more important than dimensional tolerances.
  • Hex bolts have a flat end and lack the washer face under the head.

MP35N Hex Head Cap Screw Advantages

The most important feature of a MP35N hex head cap screws is that it has a larger bearing surface area which provide better clamping pressure than other type of fastener such as a socket head cap screw. Additionally, since debris build up is less of an issue with this style of fastener verses a socket head cap screw, they are ideal of dirty applications where particles could clog up a socket. Though MP35N socket heads are typically used for tight access applications, hex heads can be a better choice when there is only side clearance available for tightening.

MP35N Chemistry, Specs and Heat Treatments

Heat Treating & Aging: MP35N is usually supplied in heat treated and cold drawn condition AMS 5844. In this state the MP35N can be worked into the desired fastener form and aged to the AMS 5845 specification. Once aged, the MP35N material could achieve it full strength potential.
